This mini-review focuses on the possible neurophysiological basis of leach gut; leaky brain disease; and the microbiota's contribution to inflammation, gastrointestinal, and blood-brain barrier integrity, in order to build a case for possible mechanisms that could foster further "leaky" syndromes.
